SHARJAH AWARD FOR ARABIC CULTURE (UNESCO)

This Award was launched to recognize the intellectual efforts and contributions for developing the Arab culture as well as for their world wide promotion.

The 'Sharjah Award for Arabic Culture' was set up jointly by the Government of Sharjah and the UNESCO (United National Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).


The Award will be accorded every two years and to be shared between a winner from an Arab country and another from a foreign country, on conditions that both nominees, whether individuals, groups or organizations have evidently proved their remarkable contributions in the development of culture, conservation and visualization of the Arab non material heritage.

The Chief of UNESCO will assess the values of the Award pursuant to profits earned from the investment of the UNESCO's general secretary according to its monetary system of the US$ 25,000/- offered by the Government of Sharjah to this purpose.

The Judging Committee is composed of at least five members from different nationalities nominated by the General Director of the UNESCO. The Judging committee is elected for four years.

Nominations must be sent by the countries known as the members of this international organizations as well as other non-public organizations that have also official relations with the UNESCO.

Names of winners shall be announced every two years during UNESCO's general meeting on a specific date fixed by the Chief of UNESCO.

The award ceremony would be attended by a representative from the Sharjah Government.
