SHARJAH TV STATION

Sharjah Television started its transmission on 11-2-1989. It was officially inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Later on 22nd of March 1997, one more channel was introduced to broadcast religious programs in different languages.

For the sake of non-Arab Muslims, His Highness approved setting up of a retransmission facility at the UAE Embassy premise in Nouakchott to facilitate watching Sharjah TV clearly through ordinary antennas by the people of Mauritania.

Concerning the station's programs special consideration is given to local productions because that is the best way to achieve comfort and ease for the society and also it is the only guaranteed way to reveal and reflect the real Arab and Islamic qualities. More than 85% of the programmes are locally produced. Sharjah TV is a regular participant in 'Cairo TV and Radio Festivals' since 1997 and it won many golden, silver and bronze medals and certificates on many occasions. In August 1997 Sharjah Satellite channel was credited with the title 'The Arab cultural channel' by the Higher Committee held in Beirut to discuss the coordination between the Satellite channels.

Sharjah TV has a number of facilities as follows:

Children's studio : It was inaugurated on the 1st day of Eid Al Adha, (10th of May 1995), and allotted for conducting children's activities and programs. Since then the place has become the main venue for revealing children's capabilities and innovations.

Al Khan transmission station : It was inaugurated in 1995 to cover many new areas catering to the local population.

New channel :

A new channel for telecasting the religious programs only started on 22/03/1997.


Space telecast

Space telecasting began through Arab satellite on the 1st of October 1996 with the following specifications :

Arabsat : 26.2 degree East
Low frequency : 3720.25 MHZ
Reception : 1429.75 MHZ
Audio : 6.6 MHZ

Sharjah Television is in agreement with TV channels of other countries such as Pakistan and Syria for exchanging and broadcasting various productions of drama and other cultural programs.

Sharjah TV telecasts via 6 waves (54, 28, 27, 25, 22 & 57) and each has its own area to cover. It has also three beautifully designed and well equipped studios, ultra modern sound and lighting systems and state of art audio-visual facilities. The latest cameras and other equipment are capable of operating many things to complete the effect.

The prime objectives of Sharjah Television are:

- A deep concern is directed towards the development of the Arab and Islamic    culture and its resources.
- A major care is given to the local character's improvement and promotion.
- Highlighting both the environment and the community prospects and follow up    the country activities in general and Sharjah specifically.
- Specific concern is directed towards family, children students, culture and    prevention.
- Special concern is also given to the non-Arab community residing in the UAE.
- Treatment of the social problems and unfavoured traditions through proposing    alternatives.
- Introducing a comprehensive informational services and introducing fun and    entertain in various mentioned fields.
