SHARJAH FESTIVAL DAYS

This is an annual theatrical and cultural programme organized annually to promote the local theatrical productions, where local theatrical troupes take part and compete each other. The Department of Culture & Information had set up a separate Committee to manage and supervise this event. The Judging committee comprises theatrical experts from other countries as well as from the UAE. Famous theatrical professionals and guests from Arab and foreign countries were invited and hosted by the Department during the festival period, who will present their papers and exchange their views in various theatrical seminars that are organized as part of the festival.

There will always be one or two theatrical performances from abroad in each session. They are invited not for competitions but to have an opportunity for interaction and understanding.

Prizes worth a total of Dhs.70,000 are given away in various categories, such as best theatrical presentation, best play writing, best director, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best sceneography, best lighting, best sound / music effects, best costumes, best make up, etc. A special prize will also be given to the best Arab artist attended the festival.

The performances are staged in various venues in Sharjah. They include Sharjah Cultural Palace, Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts, Cultural centres in Kalba & Khor Fakkan, Africa Hall and if required at other cultural centers in the Emirate.
