THE ART AREA

The Art Area is one of the prominent cultural venues in Sharjah, located in an ideal place between Sharjah and Dubai. Under the instruction of His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah, this area was chosen in recognition of its historical importance, where important cultural and artistic events are regularly organized.

The work to convert Shweihiyeen area into the specific Art Area was started in 1993 and continued till 1997, covering a large area of about 12,000 sq.metres. The structure was designed architecturally to reveal the style and maintain the identity of the UAE people.

The Art Area contains a number of artistic and cultural establishments under the supervision of the Directorate of Art, functioning under the Department of Culture & Information. The facilities and activities here include art training courses, dialogues, symposiums, lectures, workshops, etc. The main bodies involved in organizing and supervising various artistic activities are the Directorate of Art, the Emirates Fine Art Society and the Emirates Very Special Arts Group.

The Art Area with many distinguished features is worth visiting. The venue is open for the visitors during 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM everyday and the entrance is free-of-charge. Your comments are welcome and they are treated as our guidelines.
