SHARJAH AWARD FOR ARABIC EXCELLENCE

This award was set up as per the direction of His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah in order to support the new writers from the UAE and the Pan Arab world. The fresh and original manuscripts of the writers, which were not been published earlier are eligible for the competition. The fields of competition are as follows:

 

- Short story (group)
- Eloquent poetry (group)
- Drama
- Child literature (this session will be assigned for the child's theatre - both poetry and prose. Age group should be mentioned).
- Criticism (This year this is assigned for 'Theatrical text and perfection'.

Terms & conditions
The competition is open for all the UAE and other Arab countries according to the following terms:
- Age of the participants should not exceed 45 years. (A copy of the passport or birth certificate should be produced as a proof).
- The submitted manuscript should be fresh and un-published.
- The works that took part in similar contests earlier and that are submitted for a university degree or that are partially published are not allowed.
- The work should be the writer's first work that is intended for publishing.
- The topic must be written in eloquent language.
- Works should be submitted in three copies in paper and one in CD, along with the writer's CV, two personal photos and passport copy or birth certificate copy).
- One writer can take part only in any one field of the competition.
- Organizers will retain all the participating works.
- Participations that are found to be violating the rules and regulations shall be excluded from the competition.
- The last date to receive entries is 31st October 2002.
- The First winner in each field shall be invited to receive the award at a ceremony.
- The Department of Culture & Information of Sharjah Government undertakes the responsibility of publishing the winning works at its own expense and at the same time the Department will keep the copyright to itself for the first edition of these works. It will also have the right to publish some of these texts either in the form of books or in the Al Rafed magazine, published by the Department.

Jury Panel
After the preliminary verification the Awards secretary will pass the entries to a 2-member-Jury to verify and choose the winners, whose decision shall be final. Jury will comment on the competition in general and will give clarification to justify the selection.

Prizes:
- First prize in each field US$ 5,000/-
- Second prize in each field US$ 3,000/-
- Third prize in each field US$ 2,000/-
