BAIT-AL-NABOODAH

Bait Al Naboodah (The house of Al Naboodah), belongs to the late 'Obaid bin Eisa bin Ali Al Shamsi', who was also known as 'Al Naboodah'. He was a well known pearl merchant with good connection with foreign countries such as India, Africa and France.

Al Naboodah built this house in 1845 and resided here with his wife and seven children. The house has 16 rooms, out of which three are on the upper floor and rest in the basement.

The house was one of the prominent and traditional buildings that demonstrate the

heritage of the Emirate and it is a unique example of the marvelous architecture of the Gulf and Islamic Pan-Arabia. The style expresses the wonderful culture of the Sharjah Emirate. Local materials and materials brought from Zanzibar were used in the construction of the building.

The house got deserted by its owners and H.H.Sheikh Sultan gave his order for its reconstruction and maintenance. The work was completed in time according to the details provided by the Al Nabooda family. The reconstructed house has become an excellent museum that attracts local and international attention. The building has the followings:

Fashion room:

Several items of popular fashions, jewelry and ornaments are exhibited here.

Maintenance room:

This reveals the different phases of the reconstruction. In addition, it shows other parts of the house like the main original door of the house and other plaster decoration.

Boats room:

Several small mesquites are displayed in this room.

Palm tree room:

The visitor can find how important the palm trees are to the people of the region and how much they have depended on it in their day-to-day life.

Popular games room:

This room reveals the interesting games practiced by children in those days.

In addition, there are several other rooms such as the living rooms, majlis, kitchen. Many other heritage items can also be seen in this house.
