MAJLIS IBRAHIM BIN MOHAMMAD AL MIDFA

Sharjah is always in the forefront in honouring intellectuals and cultural personalities. The Late Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Midfa, a Sharjah citizen was a prominent cultural and intellectual personality. He, as a dignitary and close associate of the consecutive Rulers of Sharjah of his time, has played a very important role in our history.

He was a consultant in many important local and pan-Arab affairs. The Majlis of Ibrahim Al Midfa got renovated and opened for public on December 16, 1996 by His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah as a tribute to his valuable contributions.

Mr Ibrahim bin Mohammd Al Midfa used to combine culture and politics in his Majlis and transformed the Majlis into an intellectual and cultural forum. The first newspaper every known in the history of the UAE, titled 'Oman', was published by him in 1927. Later he published another newspaper titled 'Sout Al Asafeer' in 1933, which stopped publishing later.

In addition to the literary importance of this Majlis, where a number of elite and well educated personalities used to meet, it was also considered as one of the most important heritage museums.

This house is characterized by having a very unique air ventilation system called 'brajil', that looks like a mosque's minaret. The Majlis contains all Ibrahim Al Midfa's documents and studying books as well as his photos and private collections.

The museum is located north of Al Arsah souk, linking both the old souk and Al Arsah souk.
