CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Several cultural activities take place regularly in Sharjah and its eastern regions, especially in the museums. The most important events organized by the Directorate of Art are as follows:

(a) Sharjah International Arts Biennial

(b) Group and Solo exhibitions
These exhibitions are planned by the Directorate of Art either through inviting the artists or through applications received by the Directorate. Week-long exhibitions are usually conducted with participation of several international artists or organizations. These type of exhibitions are a general feature of the Art Directorate.

(c) UAE Artists Annual Exhibition
This exhibition is a product of co-operation between the Emirate's Fine Art Society and the Directorate of Art. This annual event comprises the works and experiences of the local and resident artists of the UAE.

(d) Sharjah Art Gallery Exhibitions
Held annually by a group of membership holding resident artists, who acquire the right to work and display their works freely at the Sharjah Art Gallery.

(e) Art Exhibition by Sharjah Art Institute's Graduates.
It is an annual exhibition displaying the productions by the students of the Sharjah Art Institute and the event is organized as per of the students' graduation ceremony.

(f) Uyoon Arabia Exhibition
Held every two years alternating with Sharjah International Arts Biennial, this exhibition features the creations of Arab Women Artists. Artists are invited and selected by the Directorate of Art to take part in this event. Associated symposium is an attraction of this exhibition.

(g) Photography Exhibition.
Photography exhibition is an annual competition to promote the art of photography. Prizes are awarded to the selected best photographic works, in consideration . There are certain rules and regulations and a Jury Panel will chose the winners. The winning works shall be displayed in the Art Museum.

(h) The international Cartoon Exhibition (Mack prints):
This exhibition is conducted in every two years with the participation of a number of well known artists from different countries competing for prizes in accordance with certain rules & regulations. Special panel of jury will choose the winners.
